DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE SEXES:

There are no external characteristics that distinguish males from females. An experienced bird lover can feel the difference between the pelvic bones, which in the case of females are more distant. In many cases, the female is larger than the male.

SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

When together, the lovebirds, are gregarious birds that can be kept in groups without any problems. You can also buy them and house them indoors in a roomy cage. However, you should be careful if you do not get these birds at the same time. The birds do not readily accept an intruder.

HOUSING:

These birds can be bred in a cage outdoors or indoors or in a spacious breeding cage. Although these birds are excellent fliers, they also like to do acrobatics and climbing.
Therefore, you can breed them in a cage that is taller than wider. Anyways, the greenhouse or cage must be made of an extremely resistant wire for the railings. Not worth putting plants in the nursery, since the birds will chew them up to the decay, in less than a glance.

Need not take any extraordinary measures in case of breeding these birds outdoors, provided they have access to a night shelter that protects them from the cage.

FOOD:

These birds must be fed with a good mix of food for parakeets, with a supplement of small amounts of fruits and herbs. During the time of pregnancy, should provide them with food and supplements with eggs. They should always have a mixture of sand.

ACTIVITY:

These birds are energetic and active and use all areas of the aviary or cage. They love to bathe in the water and their chant can be very loud and piercing.

It is advisable not to try to breed these birds before they reach one year old. A nest box should have on the bottom an area of 25x25 cm and a height of 30 cm.
They build a nest from all types of crude materials. They lay three or four eggs that the female hatches them during a period of 18 to 20 days or so. The plumage occurs after about 45 days. A few weeks after the birth of the offspring.
Parents may express aggressive behavior against them. So, it is advisable to remove the offspring as soon as possible. These birds may well have several pregnancies per year, but you should not allow them to get too exhausted, removing the nest box after the second pregnancy.

The similar to the periquitos de rosto de pêssego, there are clear mutations, and dark-green Olvia as well as mutations of mauve, sky blue and cobalt blue, sometimes in combination with pastel colors.
