The Cockatiel Albina are extremely gregarious birds, that usually have a good relationship with each other. In general, also have it with other birds, even if they are smaller or weaker.
Do not keep them together with other species of parakeets, at least with species that can be aggressive. If it doesn't have companions of the same species, a young cockatiel can develop ties of affection with his handler. If you want to keep a parakeet in a cage, choose an exemplary young man and give him much affection.
Habitat:
The cockatiel can be breed in spacious outdoor cages and indoor aviaries or cages. A cage should be large enough so that the crest of the bird will not damage against coverage.
Please note that birds love to chew and that they quickly escape if the wire railing is not enough thick and sturdy. For this reason, it makes good sense to fill the aviary with plants. It is very important that these birds have enough space to not harm the tops and tails. The cockatiel birds are very resistant. You can leave them in the outdoor aviary, during winter, provided they have a well built night shelter to protect them from drafts and frost.
Breeding:
Generally, the cockatiel is not difficult to breed. The nest is built in an enclosed nest box that should have between 35 and 38 cm tall, with a width and a depth of 25 cm, as well as an opening with 7 and 8 cm.
Depending on the age and physical condition of the female, the pregnancy can range from three to nine eggs. The female hatches the eggs for 18-21 days or so and is aided by the male. The young are fed by both adult birds, but mainly by females.
The plumage begins after four or five weeks or so. The offspring are still fed by the parents, but after seven or eight weeks they are fully independent. Throughout the period of gestation, you should provide to the birds a daily ration of food with eggs and fresh green foods, plus the seed mixture. Around six months of life, cockatiel reach the sexual maturity. Before this stage, the males, have not yet acquired definitive plumage.
Food:
Ordinary seeds for parakeets, i.e., a mixture of ingredients, including many types of millet, shelled oats, sunflower seeds and hemp are a perfect base for these birds that enjoy green foods and fresh fruit.
Also eat millet Italian. Especially during the time of pregnancy, you can give them food with eggs.
Animals like to chew and occasionally you must give them small twigs of fruit trees and thin willow branches. They should always have a sufficient amount of bone limestone, so that birds can meet their digestive needs.
